Week 21 and 22 Update

5 June, 2013 by lyndon

The lilies boxed up in week 17 continue to grow well and there are some obvious differences showing up between the different growing media.  The boxes that has been in cold store since week 17 were housed in the Haygrove tunnel in week 21.

In week 22 a wide range of Zinnia varieties have been planted in the multispan tunnel.  These are Benary varieties and they have performed very well in the trials run by John Dole in the USA.  The remit of the management group was to look at varieties that did not have the “weak neck” issues associated with varieties previously trialled by the CFC.   It is hoped that the resolution of this issue will enable the further development of what is an unusual and attractive crop.
