Week 23 update

The first flowers from the overwintered alstroemeria were harvested this week and the weak stems were thinned out.  Some of the varieties are producing superb quality stems both in terms of stem strength and length.  Others are not looking quite so promising so careful variety selection will be crucial for any grower considering using this range of “garden” varieties.Website-001

The alternative lily media trial at James Coles was brought out of the coldstore and boxed amongst his commercial crop this week.  So far all treatments are showing similar results but there is obviously a long way to go before the crop is harvested.

The ADAS direct seeded herbicide trial is starting to germinate but no signs of the larkspur yet.
